Unit Code: DE028-512
Pre or Co-requisites: 0
The purpose of this unit is to provide an opportunity for theological and practical interaction with the question of the best way to engage with people and families living with disability and how the issues of disability and dependence deepen faith, and change the way we think about and do ministry.
In Australia the NDIS has put disability in the headlines, increasing expectations that Churches and Christian ministries make intentional effort to welcome and include people and families experiencing disability. In fact, almost all those involved in Christian ministry, at home or abroad, will at some point engage with disability, or find themselves or their loved ones walking that path. In this context, how can we promote inclusion of people with disability in faith based communities and develop more effective Christian disability ministries?
The unit will draw on biblical, theological, historical and sociological foundations to develop a contemporary understanding of Christian disability ministry.
The course is coordinated by Dr Louise Gosbell and Professor Nathan Grills and includes guest spots.
