The Psalms have proved their durability in the Christian tradition, retaining great attention and affection with Christian readers over a span of centuries. However, despite this real accessibility, there are aspects of the Psalms that are easily missed in our everyday reading, an awareness which might truly enhance our understanding and appreciation of these ‘spiritual songs’.
In this unit, we will explore the origin, shape and meaning of this lively book using the tools of biblical exegesis. By immersing ourselves in the lyrics and heritage of Old Testament songwriters who clearly understood intimacy with God, we hope to grow in our own knowledge of God.
