Intriguing and unique at every turn, Jeremiah will not disappoint as we explore its message of judgment, justice and restoration in dangerous times.
One of the three major prophets, Jeremiah is the longest book in the Old Testament and thus the Christian Bible, and warrants the Christian learner and leader’s careful study. But it is not a simple or straightforward book to understand.
Its structure does not always follow a logic that is obvious to the modern reader, and its way of expressing truth may now seem obscure or, as with other OT prophets, even border on the offensive!
Yet this book has left its mark on our New Testament from Matthew’s first quotation from Jeremiah in Matt. 2:18 all the way to the woes pronounced over Babylon in Revelation 18, and in an important way anticipates the NT gospel with its announcement of a ‘new covenant’ between God and his people (Jer. 31:31).
